Nallur Prasad HASSAN: The Kannada Sahitya Parishat (KSP) will conduct literary conferences in all four revenue divisions soon, its president Nallur Prasad has said. He made a brief halt here on Sunday while en route to Bangalore. Speaking to The Hindu at the Kannada Sahitya Parishat Bhavan, he said the parishat would conduct Yuva Sahitya Sammelans in Dharwad, a folklore sammelan in Gulbarga, a Mahila Sammelan in Ramanagara and a children’s sammelan in Hassan. All the programmes would be conducted in June. Mr. Prasad said preparations were on for the 76th All-India Kannada Sahitya Sammelan that would be held in Gadag in November. On the classical language tag for Kannada, he said the matter was before the Madras High Court. He hoped a verdict in this regard would be delivered soon. He appealed to the Union Government to provide facilities to Kannada departments as was being given to Tamil departments in universities. Since the UPA Government declared Kannada a classical language, and had come back to power, things should work faster now, he hoped. He expressed satisfaction that State Government had announced a grant of Rs. 5 lakh for conducting sahitya sammelans at the district level. This would help spread Kannada and culture, he added. District KSP president Udaya Ravi was present.
