INTACH’s plea

Staff Reporter

Nagercoil: The Indian National Trust for Art and Cultural Heritage (INTACH) unit here has urged the Government to take steps to preserve a huge granite grinding stone found near a temple in the Aralvaimozhi gate.

It is said that Valiya Ejaman, captain of the fort of erstwhile Travancore State, was using this stone for preparation of dosa and idli for soldiers, said co-convener of INTACH Sumithra Raghuvaran. A study was undertaken on the old Chungachavadi (custom house) in Aravaimozhi. It was built in the 17th century on the lines of a roadside inn with huge granite pillars and the roof made of granite stones with sculptures of fish and flowers.
