ALAPPUZHA: Kerala Pradesh Congress Committee president Ramesh Chennithala has said that the Governor should grant permission immediately for the prosecution of Communist Party of India(M) State secretary Pinarayi Vijayan in the SNC Lavalin corruption case. He told presspersons here on Sunday that the poll results had reflected the public mood against the corrupt Left Democratic Front government and its stance on the case. Since the Governor was aware of the political games that the government and the CPI(M) were playing to rescue Mr. Vijayan, he should use his discretion and grant permission for the prosecution at the earliest. He said the CPI(M) was hiding something in connection with the Lavalin case. The fear that the court would expose the deceit was preventing the government and the CPI(M) from allowing Mr. Vijayan to appear before the court. ‘VS should step down’He said that with the public in the State helping the United Democratic Front gain substantial leads over the Left front in 101 Assembly constituencies, the V.S. Achuthanandan government had lost the moral right to continue in power. Mr. Achuthanandan should resign immediately, he demanded. Mr. Chennithala expressed concern over the attacks on UDF activists in various parts of the State after the elections. Though Home Minister Kodiyeri Balakrishnan was informed of this, no action was initiated and instead, the police were protecting the attackers. State government should intervene to end the violence unleashed by CPI(M) workers who were unable to digest their party’s humiliating defeat in the elections.
