Alliance committed ‘grand’ mistakes

Staff Reporter

SANGAREDDY: It were the grand mistakes committed one after the other by the partners of Grand Alliance that gave advantage to the Congress party and not the strategy that was implemented by the ruling party. From the beginning, the Congress was confident of winning in Narsapur and Narayanakhed. The six it won were literally bonus.

At least in six Assembly segments in Medak district – Sangareddy, Narayanakhed, Narsapur, Patancheru, Dubbak and Gajwel - it was the miscalculations of the partners of the Grand Alliance that offered the MLA seats to the Congress party on a platter . Gajwel and Dubbak were the seats where the opposition Telugu Desam party was strong enough to take on the ruling party. But the TDP State leadership preferred to ignore the ground realities. In both the constituencies, the TDP did not allot seats to G. Election Reddy and Ch. Muthyam Reddy. While Election Reddy shifted loyalties to the newly formed Praja Rajyam, Muthyam Reddy joined the Congress and became the candidate. Because of these two persons, the Grand Alliance - more particularly TDP – had lost these two seats.

On the other hand, the TRS demanded for four seats in district where as its strength was limited to only two constituencies.

While the party was strong enough at Siddipet and Dubbak, it took two other seats - Sangareddy and Narayankhed. As a result, these two seats were ‘offered’ to the ruling party again. The situation might have been different had the seats been left to the TDP. Coming to Patancheru and Narsapur Assembly constituencies, the Left parties played spoil-sport. Though the Grand Alliance partners time and again told that the Left was weak, the State leadership demanded the seats and paid a heavy price.
