This Day That Age
A 16-member regional committee for the relief of refugees from Tibet was constituted at a meeting of leading citizens in Madras on May 18. Dr. A. Lakshmanaswami Mudaliar was elected chairman of the committee. Acharya Kripalani, leader of the PSP, who has arrived in this connection, explained at the meeting that the committee’s aim was to render help to those who were seeking asylum in India. Acharya Kripalani observed, “We thought that the least we should do is to render help to those who are trying to seek asylum in India. We should do so by organising relief for them on humanitarian grounds apart from the political question.”
