KOLKATA: Mohun Bagan captain Baichung Bhutia said that he would like to part ways with the club on being unjustifiably humiliated by the latter with a show-cause notice. Bhutia, who was also the national team skipper, said that the club overlooked his highly decorated career and unnecessarily made the issue public before giving him a chance to reply. The club had show-caused the player for recalcitrance asking him why he should not be held responsible for ruining the team’s chances of wining the I-League title. Alleging that he was made a scapegoat for the mismanagement in the club, Bhutia said that Bagan officials overlooked the positives when the team won a record 10 matches on the trot to finish as the I-League runner up. “After this I do not have the inspiration to play anymore for the club,” Bhutia said on Monday. “This could have been avoided easily if the club officials had acted with discretion. This is an example of the mismanagement in the club,” he added. The striker said that he has always given his best as a professional player and has nothing to prove now. The star striker returned to the city after shooting for a television dance programme which apparently has invited the club’s ire on Sunday night. He unofficially met some club officials on Monday morning and made up his mind to quit by afternoon. Like what the club did three days ago, the player too chose to air his grievances through the media. The player has not yet replied to the show-cause notice though the 48-hours deadline set for reply is long over. Bhutia, who still has a year’s contract with the club, said he would be asking Bagan to release him. Bagan on its turn said that it has not received any official communication from the player.
