Indian girls finish 12th

NEW DELHI: Uzbekistan defeated India in the match for the 11th place in the Asia-Oceania World Junior under-14 girls’ tennis championship at Kuching, Malaysia.

China won the tournament and qualified along with Japan, Korea and Australia for the World Group competition.

The results (play-off):

Uzbekistan beat India 3-0 (Yana Khon bt Tarrannum Handa 7-6(7), 6-4; Alina Abdurakhimova bt Teertha Iska 6-1, 6-2; Alina Abdurakhimova and Polina Merenkova bt Sai Samhitha and Teertha Iska 6-7(2), 6-0, 6-1).

The final placings: 1. China, 2. Japan, 3. Korea, 4. Australia, 5. Indonesia, 6. Hong Kong, 7. Thailand, 8.Kazakhstan, 9. Chinese Taipei, 10. New Zealand, 11. Uzbekistan, 12. India, 13. Malaysia, 14. Sri Lanka, 15. Myanmar and 16. Singapore.
