HYDERABAD: The Hyderabad Cricket Association will not show a vindictive attitude towards those cricketers who had joined the Indian Cricket League (ICL) if they decide to terminate their contract before May 31 as stipulated by the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI). Dr. M.V. Sridhar, who took over as the Secretary of HCA at a specially convened executive committee meeting here on Monday, in the wake of the resignation of current Secretary N. Shivlal Yadav a few days ago, said there was no question of showing any discrimination against these players. “They are all our own boys. They will be welcomed back if they get the mandatory ‘no objection certificate’ from ICL,” he said. “They will be allowed to play in the HCA league straightaway once they terminate their ICL contract. But their selection to the various state teams will be purely on the basis of performances in the domestic league,” Sridhar added. Sridhar said that one of the decisions taken at the Executive Committee meeting was to stop spending on infrastructure this year. “The focus will be on how to make league cricket more effective. We are keen to ensure that senior players get adequate number of three-day matches before the Ranji season commences,” Sridhar said. “Every effort will be made to revive the good old zonal tournament format if it can be fit into this year’s calendar itself,” he said.
