Malicious campaign: PR

Special Correspondent

KADAPA: Praja Rajyam candidate T.K. Afzal Ali Khan who lost from Kadapa Assembly segment on Tuesday attributed his defeat to a malicious campaign unleashed against him by the Congress, but claimed a moral victory.

Fearing defeat at the hustings, the Congress launched a malafide campaign against Praja Rajyam with the help of a Muslim religious leader and also spread canards through a minority MLC that he was bought over by Congress, Mr. Afzal Khan asserted in a press conference here. Congressmen, while claiming that the developmental programmes and welfare schemes would ensure the party’s win, undertook the immoral campaign, Mr. Afzal Khan alleged.

Inadequate cadre to Praja Rajyam and lack of coordination among party seniors also led to his defeat, he averred.

He disputed reports in the media that Congress would emerge victorious due to loss of votes to Telugu Desam Party by his presence.

Congress leaders distributed money and liquor and won the election, he alleged. He thanked about 14,000 voters who voted for him.
