Consider schools’ plea: High Court

Staff Reporter

BANGALORE: The State Government was once again at the receiving end of the Karnataka High Court when it was asked by the court to consider within three weeks, applications by three schools from Tumkur seeking permission to switch over from Kannada to English-medium.

The schools — Gyana Sindhu Education Trust, Manjunatha Charitable Trust and Mahatma Gandhi Educational Trust — from Tumkur had moved the court after their plea to the Deputy Director of Public Instruction (DDPI), Tumkur, for starting English-medium primary schools was rejected. The DDPI said as the language issue was pending adjudication in the Supreme Court, permission to start English-medium schools was rejected. The schools had challenged this, saying that it was illegal and illogical.
