Hoteliers want essentials at fair prices

Special Correspondent

KOZHIKODE: Hoteliers have appealed to the government to supply essential commodities at fair prices in view of the increase in prices of these items and the financial difficulties faced by the industry.

The appeal was made by Hotel and Restaurant Association’s president N.B. Krishna Kurup.

He reminded the government that it had to support the hotel industry financially since it was a major contributor to the exchequer.

“The government should take urgent steps to save the hotel industry,” he said.

Loss on dry days

The association at a recent meeting pointed out that bar-attached hotels suffered big losses when dry days were declared and demanded reduction in bar licence fee whenever the government ordered closure of bars.

In a resolution, the association renewed its demand for lowering the bar licence fee so that it would be the same as in the neighbouring States and for reducing VAT to four per cent from 12.5 per cent.
