COIMBATORE: Even as the city police are maintaining vigil at various points to ward off any untoward incident following the news of the death of Liberation Tigers of Tamil Eelam chief Velupillai Prabhakaran, some forms of protests surfaced in the city and suburbs. Three persons, claiming to be members of the Kongunadu Munnetra Kazhagam, raised slogans in front of the Collectorate to condemn the developments in Sri Lanka. They were removed by the police when they threatened to commit self-immolation. A banner with the image of the body of Prabhakaran was put up at a colony of Sri Lankan Tamil refugees at Pooluvapatti. RemovedPolice removed it last night and dumped it along the road. But, the refugees were said to have displayed it again on Wednesday. The banner had slogans that claimed that Prabhakaran was alive. The city police arrested two persons, allegedly involved in throwing stones at a bus at Saravanampatti and damaging its windscreen. Three persons from Avarampalayam and two from K.K. Pudur were arrested by police for allegedly planning similar attacks. There were no preventive arrests in the city on Wednesday, police said. Ten persons had been taken into preventive arrest till Tuesday. Tight vigil continued on Wednesday at Pollachi and Udumalpet also in the Coimbatore Rural Police limits.
