Exemption sought from generation tax

Special Correspondent

CHENNAI: The Madras Chamber of Commerce and Industry (MCCI) on Wednesday urged the State government to exempt the industrial units depending upon captive power from paying generation tax.

In a press release, MCCI president Srinivasan K.Swamy stated that by its own admission, the State government said it was facing a shortfall in its ability to meet the industry’s demands. These industrial units should be exempted from paying generation tax as long as the government or TNEB was unable to provide sufficient and quality power.
