Indian women beat Wales

GLASGOW: K. Shamini, Poulomi Ghatak and Madhurika Patkar gave India a 3-0 win over Wales in the first league match (II Stage, Group ‘E’) of the Commonwealth table tennis championships here.

The other teams in Group ‘E’ are Singapore and Canada. Earlier, in the first stage, India topped Group ‘C’ edging Australia 3-2 and blanking Scotland 3-0.

Grouped with South Africa, Mauritius, Malaysia and Isle of Man, the Indian men’s team emerged triumphant in all its matches with 3-0 victory margins to finish atop Group ‘B’ in the first stage.

In the second stage, India takes on Australia in its first tie.
