Solatium given

VIRUDHUNAGAR: Minister for Backward Classes Welfare K. K. S. S. R. Ramachandran, on Thursday, distributed Rs. 6 lakh as solatium to family members of 12 persons who were killed in a road accident near Madurai.
Seventeen persons were killed on the spot when a van carrying construction workers collided with a private bus near the Madurai airport on May 15.
Twelve of the deceased were from Pavali and Palavanatham areas in Virudhunagar district.
The State Government had sanctioned Rs. 50, 000 each to the families of deceased from the Chief Minister’s General Relief Fund.
Cheques for Rs. 50, 000 were handed over to the family members of 12 victims by Mr. Ramachandran in the presence of District Collector K. Raghupathi and District Revenue Officer S. Malarvizhi, according to a press release.
