Key aspect of this year’s programme is free psychometric testing by Bodhi CHENNAI: It is that time of the year again when there is a mad scramble to apply to colleges and jobs. It is often not an easy decision for the student and/or his family. But for those people who are yet dithering about what they exactly want to do, even for those who know what they want to do, but not where, help is at hand. The Hindu Education Plus Career Fair is here again. This weekend if you are at the Madras University’s Centenary auditorium, there is a fair chance that you will be able to make your mind about what exactly you are going to do with your future. The inauguration of the fair is at 9.30 a.m. on Saturday. The Hindu Education Plus Career Fair is all about promoting education opportunities on a platform where education providers interact directly with the students. As during the previous fairs, students will be able to directly seek information about opportunities available for higher education from a panel of eminent experts from various sectors – including engineering and medicine, apart from career counsellors. Among those who will be represented at the fair include colleges, other educational institutions, IT training institutes, and banks and financial institutions. A substantial representation from organisations that promote education abroad will ensure that students get an opportunity to explore that option as well. That is not all. A key aspect of this year’s programme is the free psychometric testing being offered by Bodhi, at the venue. An integrated assessment combining factors such as Interest, Internal motivators, Aptitude (Verbal, Numerical, Logical, Spatial, Mechanical and Closure aptitudes) and Personality is done. The products available in the market at a substantial price cover only one or two of the above listed headings. Normally these tests are available at a substantial price and are offered online. But here is an opportunity for students to take the test. The psychometric tests operate on the basic principle that the first step in any career planning is becoming self aware. This, in a nutshell, is what the tests do. Psycho means Mind and Metric means Measurement. Psychometric tests are tools which give a quantifiable measurement of an individual’s mental ability and traits. It is an invaluable tool in the area of career selection as it gives a clear, accurate and scientific basis to assess the internal factors which can affect a person’s performance on the job in the future.
