Summer special: Delhi Education Minister Arvinder Singh announcing in the Capital on Thursday the launch of a summer programme for children. NEW DELHI: The Delhi Government will provide professional training to nearly 30,000 students, who have appeared at the Class XII and X examinations and are not willing to pursue further education, under the Modular Employable Skills scheme. The training, to be imparted under the Prime Minister’s Skill Development Mission Programme, will be provided in 13 different trades like fashion designing, Indian foods and snacks, travel and tourism, media, and beauty culture. The classes will be conducted in the afternoon in single-shift government schools from July. “This free-of-cost scheme is for those students who don’t perform well academically. We will make arrangements to impart training to around 30,000 students who would be able to find respectable employment with more than satisfactory remuneration,” said Delhi Education Minister Arvinder Singh at a press conference here on Thursday. “The objective is to improve the students’ employability by optimally utilising the infrastructure available in government schools. The courses are optional. The duration for these courses will vary between 90 and 270 hours. The minimum age for enrolling in these courses is 14 years,” he added. Once the students finish the course, they will be evaluated by a third party and given a recognised certificate by the Union Government.Mr. Singh also spoke about the summer workshop programme “Indradhanush”, where the Delhi Government has tied up with Sahitya Kala Parishad, NSD and Bharatiya Vidya Bhavan for conducting classes for students during the summer break.
