10 hurt in firing by Assam militants

Sushanta Talukdar

Guwahati: Eight security personnel and two railway employees were injured when suspected militants of the Dima Halam Daogah (Jewel faction) fired on a special security train between Hatikhali and Dijaobra in North Cachar Hills district in Assam on Friday.

The personnel were escorting the train as part of a security exercise to assess the vulnerability of the track for trains in the wake of attacks on trains. Four of the injured sustained bullet wounds.

A high-level meeting, convened by Chief Secretary P.C. Sarma, decided to undertake special security measures to thwart such attacks.
