‘Shift pigs out of Mysore city’

Staff Correspondent

MYSORE: The Mysore City Corporation (MCC) has served an ultimatum to pig owners. They have been told to shift their livestock (pigs) away from the city within a fortnight.

Though the number of pigs roaming freely in the city has come down after the corporation launched a drive to catch pigs in 2007, the corporation’s Health Department aims to free the city of stray pigs.

Health officer Nagaraj told The Hindu that the corporation may be forced to launch another drive against pigs if the pig owners do not obey the MCC’s directive.

The corporation had earlier asked pig owners to shift pigs about 10 km away from the city limits as stray pigs were found to disturb the smooth flow of traffic in some areas.
