Low pressure in Bay

Special Correspondent

HYDERABAD: A low pressure area was formed in the Bay of Bengal on Friday, brightening the prospects of the early onset of the south-west monsoon in the State. It is likely to intensify into a depression.

A forecast issued by the India Meteorological Department said favourable conditions existed on Friday for the onset of the monsoon in Kerala in two days.

Heralding the monsoon’s arrival, heavy rains lashed parts of the State, causing a significant fall in day temperatures much to the relief of the areas reeling under heat.

A heavy rainfall warning, valid for Saturday, has been issued to the entire Rayalaseema region, and to the districts of Guntur, Krishna, Nellore and Prakasam in Coastal Andhra.

Venkatagiri Kota in Chittoor district received a heavy rainfall of 11 cm.
