HYDERABAD: The State committee meeting of Communist Party of India (CPI) has squarely blamed the alleged ‘blackmailing tactics’ of Telangana Rashtra Samiti, indecisiveness of Telugu Desam Party and CPI (M) contesting from the seats allotted to CPI as the major reasons for party’s dismal performance in the general elections. The State committee meeting here on Friday analysed the causes for the failure of the Grand Alliance to effective take on the Congress in the elections. The meeting which was held in the presence of CPI State secretary K. Narayana and Deputy General Secretary of CPI Suravaram Sudhakar Reddy did not mince words in faulting the alliance partner’s role in the election debacle. The meeting opined that thought the alliance partners had succeeded in taking the corruption issue of the Congress government to the national level, it failed to sustain the momentum as elections approached. Though the alliance came into being on time, there was delay in seat adjustments. The role played by TRS in blackmailing the other allies and open statements caused irreparable damage to the united efforts of the alliance. More seats to TRS disappointed the other alliance partners. While the ruling party went all out in the election campaign, the alliance partners were tied down in seat selection and filing of nominations. It also said the Third Front did not enjoy people’s confidence while Muslims and Christians fully backed the Congress party. CPI leaders noted that split in opposition votes and entry of Praja Rajyam marred the chances of the alliance and benefited Congress. The leaders were anguished at the role of the alliance partners – TRS and CPI (M) – which fielded its candidates in Husnabad and Mangalagiri segments, which were left for the CPI as part of seat adjustment. Floor leaderGunda Mallesham was elected Floor leader of the CPI Legislature Party. K. Sambasiva Rao was made the Deputy leader while V. Yadagiri Rao would be the whip.
