NEW DELHI: The Parliamentary Board of the Bharatiya Janata Party is scheduled to meet here on Saturday to consider a replacement for Uttarakhand Chief Minister B.C. Khanduri, who offered to resign owning moral responsibility for the defeat of the party in all the five Lok Sabha seats in the State.

Observers in Dehra Dun

Two observers of the Central leadership — Thawar Chand Gehlot and Gopinath Munde — are already in the State capital Dehra Dun to assess the mood of the party MLAs on the leadership issue. They will then report to BJP President Rajnath Singh ahead of the Parliamentary Board meeting.

Senior BJP leaders have admitted that it was a mistake to “impose” the Central leadership’s will on the MLAs, which happened when Major General (retired) B.C. Khanduri was made Chief Minister.

This time the Central leadership is in favour of a Chief Minister, who enjoys the confidence of the Legislature Party.

Two front runners for the job are B.S. Koshiyari, the former Chief Minister and now a Rajya Sabha member, and MLA and State government Minister Ramesk Pokhriyal ‘Nishak’.
