Hollywood hit ‘Kung Fu Panda’ will be inaugural film of the festival Kannada director Abhaya Simha’s ‘Gubbachigalu’ is the only Indian film KOLKATA: A six-day international festival of children’s films showcasing films from 20 countries will be held in the city from May 24, giving children a chance to watch films from abroad. “There is no scope for children to see foreign films other than Hollywood releases. That is why this festival is being organised, where children can watch films for free,” Sajal Dutta, joint secretary, Cine Central, that is organising the festival in collaboration with Nandan (West Bengal Film Centre), Eastern Zonal Cultural Centre and the UNICEF, said here on Friday. The Cine Central has invited students from about 20 schools to the festival. “Last year we had an incredible response from the schools. All our shows ran to full houses,” said Mr. Dutta. Hollywood hit ‘Kung Fu Panda’ will be the inaugural film of the festival, but the festival includes award-winning films from the Netherlands, Italy, France, Iran, Japan, etc as well as some UNICEF productions. Most anticipated filmsDanish films ‘In Oranje’ and ‘The Horror Bus’, Italian film ‘Pinocchio’ and Japanese animated films ‘The girl who leapt through time’ and ‘Nitaboh’ are among the most anticipated films. Kannada director Abhaya Simha’s ‘Gubbachigalu’ is the only Indian film. It is the story of two children on a quest to find ‘their’ missing sparrow, which reflects on the dwindling biodiversity of our cities.
