HYDERABAD: The Banjara Hills police on Saturday recovered stolen antique jewellery belonging to heirs of the Nizam dynasty with the arrest of a maid’s husband. Prabhavathi, wife of the accused, B. Ambaraya, 37, used to work in the house of the Allauddin, who recently flew to England along with her husband. Prabhavati used to live in a quarter on the premises of the house on road no. 9 of Banjara Hills, the Banjara Hills Inspector, Mohd. Iqbal Siddiqui, said. As the landlord’s family was away, Ambaraya hatched a plot to burgle the house. He broke a window pane, managed to unbolt the door and entered inside. He went to Mr. Allauddin’s bedroom on first floor, collected the jewellery and fled. His wife, who returned home after shopping, saw the broken window pane and alerted the police. On learning about the burglary, the Allauddin’s family returned to Hyderabad and found that ornaments worth Rs. 25 lakh were stolen. The needle of suspicion swung towards Ambaraya who was missing since the burglary was reported. On a tip-off, the police caught him on Saturday and recovered the stolen jewellery.
