Hoping for the best: Students at a job fair conducted by Osmania University in Hyderabad on Saturday. - HYDERABAD: Thousands of students thronged the two-day multi-industry job fair conducted by Osmania University College of Arts and Social Sciences in association with Globas Corporate Services on Saturday. About 38 companies including Wipro, Satyam BPO, HDFC Bank, Reliance Communication and HCL are participating in the event. 5,000 jobs“Some 5,000-odd jobs are on offer at the fair in sectors like sales, marketing, financial services, insurance, IT, ITES and pharma,” said university Vice-Chancellor T. Tirupati Rao, who inaugurated the event today. The event is being conducted with an objective to help the students in the time of recession. Mixed reactionsNotwithstanding the averments, the fair could not really boost the morale of prospective employees as most of the jobs were that of BPO, sales and customer service. “We came here to apply for finance-based openings, but we don’t find enough options,” said Deepa Agarwal, who did her MBA from OU Department of Management. The engineering and MCA students, who attended the fair in a good number also had to return empty handed as the software positions being offered were fewer. Two MCA students, alumni of the University of Hyderabad, felt that there were very few IT jobs available. Ch. Kiran, a biotechnology postgraduate also voiced similar concern about the life science jobs. Last day todayHowever, the fair is offering opportunities for those aspiring to join BPOs and other jobs that require communication skills. Apart from that, jobs like sales executive, which offer a monthly salary of Rs.4,500, are also available here. The fair will conclude on Sunday.
