Monitoring system for noon-meal scheme mooted

KOLLAM: The State conference of the Kerala Education Department Ministerial Staff Association, which concluded here on Sunday, called upon the State government to take emergency steps to ensure a transparent and efficient system for textbook distribution.

A resolution at the conference said that experiments in distribution of textbooks should be stopped. These were causing tension to lakhs of students.

The association said textbook depots and school societies should be taken into confidence to avoid a repetition of the failures.

Another resolution called for a more efficient Education Department. The education offices should be reconstituted so as to have one for every 40 schools.

The conference called for the creation of ministerial staff posts in higher secondary schools. For the successful implementation of the noon-meal scheme, a sub-district-level monitoring system should be set up.

The conference elected M.B. Benoy president of the association and T.N. Balan general secretary. The others elected are N.K. Jayaraj and Jolly Mathai, vice-presidents; S. Manilal, Satish Kumar and K.N. Sasidharan, secretaries; and Thomas Abraham, treasurer.
