HYDERABAD: Holding placards and raising slogans against the scourge of flu, scores of health buffs drawn from various walks of life joined in a rally organised to spread awareness on influenza A (H1N1) flu virus, popularly known as swine flu, from Indira Park on Sunday. The event, attended by Principal Secretary (Medical and Health) L. V. Subramanyam and State Coordinator for H1N1 Influenza Dr. K. Subhakar, was organised by top health and hygiene soap brand Lifebuoy, a release said. Manager for Lifebuoy’s Global Social Mission Dr. Myriam Sidibe was also present on the occasion. “Such awareness programmes help in controlling the anxiety levels and reduce panic among the public,” said Mr. Subramanyam praising the initiative. HygieneDr. Subhakar gave an overview on the H1N1 virus and explained about Swine Flu. Lifebuoy’s Dr. Sidibe said that India’s first flu case was reported from Hyderabad and hence there was a need to hold a rally on H1N1 flu. “Simple habits like washing hands at least five times a day could go a long way in avoiding all kinds of infections,” he said. ParticipationMembers from several NGOs including, Concern for Twin Cities, Lions Club, Freemasons, Walkers, SIP Academy , Jaycees, Indira Park ’s Walker Association, Allipuram Foundation, Smile Foundation and MV Foundation participated in the event.
