Lavish lunch for police officers

Staff Reporter

Good work during elections pleases top brass

Shankar M. Bidari personally invited the officers

Bangalore: Senior police officials were treated to a lavish lunch at the Palace Grounds by Police Commissioner Shankar M. Bidari here on Saturday. The reason: there were no untoward incidents during the recent elections.

About 300 police officials, including 200 police inspectors, attended the party. They were praised by Mr. Bidari and Additional Commissioner (Law and Order) M.R. Pujar for their work during the elections. The lunch was organised for all officers of the rank of Police Inspector and above, a release said.

The party had an elaborate spread — both vegetarian and non-vegetarian — to tickle the taste buds of the otherwise busy police officials.

“Mr. Bidari personally invited all the officials to the party. For the first time in the history of the Police Department, such a grand party was organised,” a police inspector told The Hindu.

The grand luncheon also provided a perfect platform to the officials to meet their batch-mates. In several cases where police inspectors had served the department for at least 15 years had not got an opportunity to meet their batch-mates. On Saturday, there were several such re-unions among the friends. “After seven years, I personally met my batch-mate at this party. This is one such platform for us to get to know each other,” said an Assistant Commissioner of Police.

However, the sub-inspectors of police, who were not invited for the party, were disappointed. Many felt that they should have been invited as they had also contributed to the successful conduct of the elections.
