Roundabout formation

The scheme road and AMC road cross each other near Kamaraj bus stand at Dindigul. This junction is busy with flow of traffic from all four roads. The situation is alarming from 4 p.m. to 9 p.m. It is a nightmare for anyone to cross this junction.

To regulate free flow of traffic without any problem, a roundabout at the junction of these roads is a must.

Lack of space could be compromised by taking a small area from the corporation land where water tank is located.

Alternatively, automatic signal lamps could be installed at this junction to regulate traffic and avoid accidents.

Four lane highway

On the recommendation of the State Government, the Centre has already approved in principle to undertake conversion of the present NH 49 into a four -lane road from Madurai to Rameswaram.

Considering the importance of Rameswaram, the State and Central Governments should give top priority to this scheme, allot sufficient funds and commence the project at the earliest.

Reconsider decision

The Southern Railway has decided to stop the summer passenger train in Tiruchi-Karaikudi-Manamadurai-Madurai route from May 19. The commuters have been affected by the decision.

This train is very useful to students, government servants and traders.

Will the authorities reconsider their decision?

V. Rajendran,

Irregular water supply

The Ramanathapuram municipality has not supplied drinking water through pipeline for the last 20 days.

It is learnt that a snag in the pumping motor was the reason for major breakdown, leading to water supply stoppage.

The municipal authorities have not taken any step to get the motor repaired and put into use in a record time.

As per the Municipal Act Section 132 (a) and 2 (a) 1,000 litres of water should be supplied to the residents free of cost.

But in Ramanathapuram town, a flat rate of Rs. 30 per month is being collected towards water tax by the municipality, discarding meter reading.

G. Nagasamy,

Ramanathapuram.
