Looking Ahead: the wait ends

At last your wait is over. The much-awaited career guidance programme titled “Looking Ahead”, conducted by your education news supplement The Hindu EducationPlus, will be held for the first time at 10 a.m. at Nutana Ravindra Mantapa, MGM College, in Udupi on Tuesday.

The event, conducted in Bangalore and Mysore, over the weekend met with tremendous response from students and parents in both places.

With eminent academic H.S. Ballal, Pro-Chancellor, Manipal University, delivering the key-note address and several academics and industry experts slated to take you on a journey through various career options before you, this three-hour event promises to be an information-intensive one. We find that despite the online information overload, students continue to look for inspirational interactions with specialists in various fields. This event is an off-page extension of our efforts at addressing this need.

In addition, students will take home a free copy of “Looking Ahead”, a well-researched publication which presents a wide range of expert articles charting trends, providing information and even helping you plan the next step after graduation.

The programme will begin at 10 a.m. BASE, a leading coaching chain centre is our intellectual partner for this programme. K.S. Aithal, Professor of Physics, Manipal Institute of Technology, will speak on “Pure sciences at a crossroads”.

The lecture will take you through a journey of the exciting world of science and research, and explain what it entails to take up pure science as a profession.

This will be followed by a talk on the professional college admission process, based on both the Common Entrance Test (CET) and Undergraduate Entrance Test (UGET), by K.G. Rathnakar, Academic Director, BASE, Udupi. He will also clear doubts about the ensuing process.

Naren Koduvattat, managing director, I-point consulting services, will speak on the theme of the session. His talk on “Looking Ahead” will give an overview of the job market across various industries over the next few years. For those aspiring to study abroad, we present a lecture by education consultant Bindu Chopra, regional director of The Chopras.

The relevance of soft skills in the industry and the job market cannot be stressed enough. Our last session addresses this very issue.

A talk and presentation by industry expert Shivananda Salgame will take you through the nuances of this much-coveted skill set, and provide tips on how to go about acquiring them.

The programme is also being held at Hubli (May 28) and Gulbarga (May 29). To register, send an email to th.educationplus @gmail.com.
