Bijapur
Livid: Residents of various localities taking out a procession in Bijapur city on Monday. Bijapur: Members of the Socialist Unity Centre (SUCI) along with residents of Jorapurpeth and Ibrahim Roza Road staged a protest outside the office of the City Municipal Council (CMC) Commissioner protesting against the irregular supply of drinking water here on Monday. The protesters also raised slogans against the CMC authorities and the Commissioner. Addressing the protesters, SUCI district convener Bhagwan Reddi said that although the district received sufficient quantity of water, it was facing an acute water shortage owing to an improper distribution system. The “negligent and lethargic” attitude of the CMC authorities was responsible for such a situation, they alleged. Mr. Reddi alleged that the CMC authorities had not taken any steps to correct the loopholes in the distribution system even after several agitations and protests being staged. He demanded that the CMC Commissioner, Mahindra Kumar, make known the reasons for which the people were not receiving sufficient drinking water and set right the issue as early as possible. He also warned that SUCI would intensify its agitation if the CMC authorities failed to take steps in this regard. A memorandum was submitted to Mr. Mahindra Kumar seeking remedial action. Responding to the memorandum, Mr. Mahindra Kumar said the inconvenience was caused owing to bursting of main water supply pipeline at Kolhar and steps had been taken to repair the pipeline. The problem would be solved in a day or two. He also said that necessary steps would be taken to ensure supply of drinking water once in five days. Meanwhile, the residents of Shahunagar staged a “rasta roko” at Ambabhavani temple road as a resultof which traffic came to a standstill for more than an hour.
