Tiruchi Railway Protection Force zone imparts training to its direct SI recruits

TIRUCHI: For the first time, the Railway Protection Force (RPF) Zonal Training Centre here is imparting training to the directly recruited Sub Inspector cadets of the force selected from various parts of the country.

Over 130 Sub Inspector (SI) cadets are currently undergoing both indoor and outdoor training at the centre’s sprawling premises at Khajamalai area. The SI cadets are being trained in various aspects including law, working of railways, psychology, disaster management, crimes in railways and use of technology as part of their indoor training.

The outdoor training includes handling of various types of weapons, physical efficiency, firing, first aid, bomb detection and diffusion, yoga, rope climbing and fire fighting techniques.

A team of instructors from the centre as well as from other zones were involved in training them. Guest lectures by senior RPF officers on various topics have been organised.

Upon completion of nine months rigorous training at the centre here, the trainees would be posted in different zones to undergo two months practical training.

They would then be attached to the Government Railway Police for one month, making it a one-year training schedule before they begin to serve.

The centre has been training constable recruits besides organising ‘in-service’ training programmes and refresher courses for RPF personnel from the rank of constable to inspector. This is for the first time that the centre has been given the task of imparting training to directly recruited Sub Inspector cadets, says Security Commissioner–cum– Principal, RPF Zonal Training Centre, Tiruchi E. Mohanam.

The RPF Zonal Training Centres at Kharagpur, Maula Ali near Hyderabad and Gorakhpur, besides RPF Academy at Lucknow were involved in training SI cadets selected from various parts of the country, Mr. Mohanam said.

Training for the 81st batch of 127 constable recruits, including 23 women, was simultaneously under way at the centre. Mr. Mohanam said infrastructure at the centre was being improved by construction of four classrooms besides an instructor’s room and a 30-bedded barrack besides five units of Type-II quarters.
