Cyclone moves towards West Bengal

HYDERABAD: The deep depression that intensified into a cyclonic storm, spared Andhra Pradsh and hit West Bengal severely, causing heavy rain in that State on Monday.

The cyclonic storm named ‘Aila’, which lay about 140 km South-East of Chandbali in West Bengal, was likely to intensify further and move in a northerly direction and cross West Bengal coast anytime.

Meanwhile, there was isolated rain in Rayalaseema and Telangana on Monday, with Hyderabad, Kadiri and Ramayampet receiving a rainfall of 1 cm each, while weather remained dry in Coastal Andhra. At the same time, the day temperatures were high in the State, with Adilabad and Nalgonda recording 43 degrees Celsius, the highest for the day.
