New look: Renovation work at the Andhra Balananda Sangam Nursery and Primary School on Burkit Road in progress. CHENNAI: The Andhra Balananda Sangam Nursery and Primary School at T.Nagar, founded in 1965 to provide quality education at a concessional rate, is getting revamped to reach out to more children. The Andhra Balananda Sangam Educational Trust, which runs the school, is part of the Andhra Balananda Sangam established by N.Raghava Rao, who was popularly known as ‘Radio Annaya.’ The Sangam was set up to provide a platform for children’s talent and develop their personality through extracurricular activities. Apart from running the school, the trust is also involved in conducting dance, drama and computer classes for children. Chairman of the trust M.S.Murthy said that the student strength of the school is now only 60. The medium of instruction was English. The school also offered Telugu and Hindi as subjects. More studentsWith the ongoing construction of additional classrooms, at a cost Rs.3.5 lakh, the school would be able to take in more students. “We are increasing the student strength to 200 this year and have sought permission to upgrade the school to higher secondary level after renovation,” he said. “We provide uniforms and meals free of cost to students. About 10 students in each class are provided with scholarships,” he said. New office-bearersThe trust, which recently got a new set of office bearers, aims to give holistic education to students. A library, which would also have rare Telugu books, would be set up and kept open for public use.
