Impediments in the way of starting the bio-diversity park on the airport premises have been removed. NEDUMBASSERY: The aviation academy started by the Cochin International Airport Limited (CIAL) would begin functioning from June, said Minister for Fisheries and Registrations S. Sarma, here on Monday. Inaugurating the 10th annual day celebrations of the airport company, he said that the construction of the building and other infrastructure in the land allotted for the academy at Athani was progressing fast. Other related issues, including the syllabus to be followed, were being finalised, he said. The minister said no labourer in the ground handling section would lose his job when the new agency took charge of the operation in a couple of months. The airport company had reached an agreement with the new agency to retain all the labourers, Mr. Sarma said. Most of the employees in the ground handling section are those whose property had been taken over for the airport project. Air India is the ground handling agency at present. The minister also released a souvenir brought out by the airport company, describing its accomplishments in the last one decade. Forest Minister Binoy Viswom, who spoke on the occasion, said impediments in the way of starting the bio-diversity park on the airport premises had been removed and the government was planning to complete the first stage of the project ‘Suvarnodyanam’ by next year. CIAL managing director C.G. Krishnadas Nair; Federal bank chairman M.Venugopal; former MLA P.J. Joy and M.O. John also spoke on the occasion.
