The MET Public School, Perumbavoor will soon have a space museum on its campus. A joint venture between the school and ISRO, the museum would be open to students from all schools, said Indira Rajan, school director. An architect has visited the site and a museum with a futuristic design will come up soon. The ISRO had donated charts, models of rockets and satellites for the museum that was inaugurated by G. Madhavan Nair, ISRO chairman. Orientation for teachers The Marthoma Public School, Kochi, has arranged an orientation programme for its teachers at Santigiri Ashram on May 28 and 29. Among the topics that would be discussed are ‘Post-modernism in 21st Century education’. “The aim is to equip and motivate the teachers for the new academic year,” said Asha Mathews, principal. The school manager, Rev. M.O. Ommen Jr. and administrator Rev. P.V. Shibu will be among those who lead the sessions. Teaching methods The Al Ameen Public School, Kochi, too has organised an orientation programme for its teachers and another one for its managers. Classes would be taken on student-oriented teaching methods and problems associated with teenagers. “The focus would be on creating an attitudinal change in teachers and moulding children’s attitude at the right age. Apart from setting apart more time for students on moral education, classes would be taken on social etiquette,” the school manager T. P. M. Ibrahim Khan said. Members in State team Samson James, a 10th Standard student of the Sacred Heart CMI Kindergarten and Public School, Kochi, led the State Under-16 basketball team in the national-level championship. “Five of our players are members of the State team,” said Fr. George Koyikara, school director. He added that the Plus Two course would begin in the school from this year. The school would reopen on June 1 and a formal induction ceremony has been arranged. A.S. Manikandan, a third-std student of the school, got the first place in category I of the State-level MaRRS International Spelling Bee contest and the third in the national contest.
