Karunanidhi to inaugurate park

CHENNAI: Chief Minister M. Karunanidhi will inaugurate a park developed opposite the Secretariat on Rajaji Salai on Friday, according to Local Administration Minister M.K. Stalin.
He announced this after inspecting the works at park on Monday. Mr Stalin said that the area opposite the Secretariat was developed into a park at a cost of Rs.7 crore under the first phase, which covers a distance of 935 metres from the Reserve Bank of India to the War Memorial.
Walking paths, fountains, ornamental plants, lawns and a play centre for children have been provided in the park.
Under the second phase beautification of the area, a distance of three kilometre, from Napier Bridge to Light House, is in progress.
Apart from this, beautification of Elliots Beach and Thiruvanmiyur beaches, at a cost of Rs.40 crore, has also been taken up.
These works are expected to be completed in about six months, a press release said.
