CHENNAI: At least 75 huts were damaged and two persons injured in a fire accident that took place at Namasivayapuram in Choolaimedu here on Monday.
Police said the fire was reported at 4.30 p.m. Fire tenders were moved from the Kilpauk, Koyambedu, Egmore and Teynampet fire stations. Water lorries were also rushed to the spot. As the lanes leading to the scene of fire were narrow and congested, fire fighters had to pull water pipes to a long distance and extinguish the flames.
A woman and a baby girl were injured in the incident. The cause of fire is under investigation. The Deputy Commissioner of Police (Kilpauk), M. Pandian, supervised the relief and rescue operations, the police said.
