Wanted man held at Chennai airport

MANGALORE: Mangalore police in association with Chennai police have arrested Kaup Ismail, who was wanted here in connection with a plan to kidnap a businessman for ransom.

A.S. Rao, Superintendent of Police, Dakshina Kannada, said Ismail was arrested at Chennai airport on Saturday night. He was produced before a court here on Monday which remanded him to judicial custody for 15 days.

Mr. Rao said Ismail was a close associate of Rasheed Malbari, a member of Chota Shakeel gang. Malbari was arrested here recently for planning to kidnap a businessman. “Following the arrest of Malbari we had sent out a look out notice for Ismail to all airports in connection with a conspiracy case registered at Ullal police station,” Mr. Rao said.

He said Ismail was planning to escape to Saudi Arabia via Chennai airport.

Mr. Rao said that the case registered was in connection with the plan to kidnap the businessman.
