Omkar eighth in air pistol

NEW DELHI: Omkar Singh made the men’s air pistol final but ended up eighth in the shooting World Cup in Milan on Sunday.

Omkar shot a 581 out of 600 in the qualification series, but a below par 94.6 in the 10-shot final following shots of 7.7 and 8.2, saw him slip to the eighth spot.

He shot a series of 94, 99, 97, 97, 98 and 96 in the preliminary phase.

Gurpreet Singh was equally impressive in the Minimum Qualifying Scores (MQS) section, as he also shot a 581, with a sequence of 96, 97, 99, 97, 96 and 96. However, Samaresh Jung could not recapture his magic touch with the pistol as he shot a 569.

In women’s air pistol, Heena Sidhu shot a 383 and missed a final berth by one point. In fact, Heena was shooting brilliantly with rounds of 98, 97, 97 but a 91 pulled her out of the reckoning for a medal.

Anisa Sayyed was too good in the MQS section and shot a 384 following a series of 95, 96, 97 and 96.
