Jubilant: Students celebrating their success in the CBSE class 10 examination at a school in Bangalore on Tuesday.
Bangalore: Students from Karnataka studying in the Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE) stream have achieved an impressive pass percentage of 98.74 in the 10th standard examination as against the Chennai regional average of 95.60. This continues the winning streak of students from the State, who had done well in the CBSE 12th as well ICSE (10th) and ISE (12th) examinations results of which were announced last week. The mood in CBSE schools in Bangalore was jubilant on Tuesday as most of them have secured 100 per cent pass. The relative pass percentage of States in the region shows that the performance is neck and neck, with Puducherry (99.72), Kerala (99.22), Goa (98.93), and Tamil Nadu (98.74) ahead of Karnataka. In 2008, students of the State achieved a pass percentage of 98.41 as against the regional average of 95.25 per cent. As always, girls have performed better than boys in Karnataka, with 99.13 per cent and 98.48 per cent, respectively. In the entire region, the gap is narrower, with girls achieving 95.77 per cent as against 95.47 achieved by boys. KV schoolsThe Kendriya Vidyala schools of the Bangalore region have a special reason to cheer: They have emerged first among the 18 regions in the country for the fifth consecutive year. They have an overall pass percentage of 99.29. Twenty-seven of 44 schools have achieved 100 per cent pass. Of the 27, eight are in Bangalore. As many as 1,05,353 students appeared for the examination in the Chennai region. Of them, 1,00,716 passed. In Karnataka, 13,164 students appeared for the examination of whom, 13,000 passed. Students seeking re-checking of marks should apply on the prescribed form within 21 days from the publication of results along with a fee of Rs. 100 per subject in the form of a Demand Draft in favour of the Secretary, CBSE, according to a press release.
