Kochi: A Division Bench of the Kerala High Court on Tuesday directed the Election Commission to consider a representation seeking to make changes in the electronic voting machines (EVMs) to show the symbol of candidates on the display screen while pressing the button for voting. The Bench comprising Chief Justice S.R. Bannurmath and Justice Kurian Joseph passed the direction while disposing of a writ petition filed by C.N. Gopakumar of Aluva and another person. They said that a representation had been given to the Election Commission in this regard. But no action had been taken on it. The petitioner said that at present it could not be ensured that the candidate whom one voted had secured the same. Writ plea admittedA Division Bench issued notice to the Central government and the Election Commission on a writ petition seeking to provide voting rights to Non-Resident Indians (NRIs). The Bench comprising Chief Justice Bannurmath and Justice Kurian Jospeh issued the notice on a writ petition filed by Shihas, a Non-Resident Indian. Notice to governmentJustice Thottathil B. Radhakrisnan issued notice to the State government and Choornikkara grama panchayat near Aluva on a writ petition challenging the inclusion of tobacco product ban as a condition in the licence for a stock depot. The petition was filed by a company.
