VILLUPURAM: Collector R. Palanisamy has urged people to attach proper documents with their petitions to enable officials take speedy action. He was speaking at a mass contact programme held at Kallanthal in Thirukkoilur block near here on Wednesday. Mr. Palanisamy said it had been noticed that certain persons were in the habit of submitting the same petitions repeatedly. In certain cases, the petitions were not accompanied by proper documents and in some cases, wrong documents were attached. This increased the workload of the officials and led to delay in clearing the petitions. To quickly address grievances, the District Revenue Officer, Sub-Collectors, tahsildars, Revenue Divisional Officers and Village Administrative Officers were also collecting petitions on Mondays, he said. There was a toll free number 1070 for petitioners to register grievances without travelling to Villupuram. Mr. Palanisamy also said that Jamabandhi sessions would be held in villages across the district from June 3 to 22. People could submit their petitions to officials concerned during that period. Speaking on literacy, Mr. Palanisamy said that it was heartening to note that for the past two years the district was doing well in Plus-Two and Secondary School Leaving Certificate examinations. With the cooperation of parents, the pass percentage could be improved. He urged parents to put their wards in schools at the right age and see to it that they completed their education. Mr. Palanisamy said that the government was extending benefits such as free uniforms, bus passes, textbooks, mid-day meals and scholarships to students. He called upon parents to avail themselves of these benefits. The Collector received over 500 petitions, seeking among other things roads, drinking water supply, ration cards, old age pension and house site pattas. He also gave away benefits worth Rs. 33 lakh to 351 beneficiaries. Earlier, officials belonging to various departments spoke about welfare schemes launched by the government. V.A.T. Kalivaradhan, MLA, called upon the officials to issue handbills on the welfare schemes. Panchayat union chairperson Ranjitha, Thirukkoilur RDO K. Gothandarama Gupta, and Public Relations Officer M. Palanisamy were present.
