“Use equipment to remove sludge”

CHENNAI: The Tamil Nadu Pollution Control Board has directed leather and dyeing units in the State to remove sludge and solid waste in their units using mechanical equipment. They should not employ manual labour for the purpose.

The Board, in a press release here on Thursday, stated that it had been brought to its notice that some units were removing sludge and solid waste collected in settling/collection tanks of their effluent treatment plant and in wayside inspection chambers/ manholes of common effluent treatment manually. Severe action would be taken against such units. — Special Correspondent
