‘Create federations to boost self-help groups’

To help federations obtain loans upto Rs. 1 crore

SIVAGANGA: K. Ashok Vardhan Shetty, Principal Secretary, Rural Development and Panchayat Raj, has directed the officials concerned to concentrate on creating Panchayat Level Federations to strengthen the self help group movement.

Decision

Reviewing the ongoing works here at the Collectorate on Wednesday, which was chaired by Collector Pankaj Kumar Bansal, he said the State government had decided to encourage the PLF concept, as it would take the SHG movement to the next level of empowerment.

It would facilitate the PLF to get loan up to Rs. 1 crore.

There was no need for them to depend on NGO’s or micro credit agencies for getting huge loan amount.

He said it was decided to create 4 PLFs in each block.

In Sivaganga district, 48 PLFs would be created. Officials should take concrete steps to create the federations.

Mr. Shetty said officials should not give room for complaints in measuring the works done by the beneficiaries under the National Rural Employment Guarantee Scheme.

Wages

They should get their correct wages as per the guidelines.

In addition to this, he added that rural development officials must ensure the opening of bank accounts for all beneficiaries under the NREGS.

If the applications were pending in banks, they should meet the bank officials concerned to expedite the works.

Complaints

He had received some complaints that Tamil Nadu Electricity Board officials were levying electricity fee on government, panchayat and other building without physically verifying the meter readings.

It had caused loss of revenue. They should not fix usage fee approximately.

Mr. Shetty directed the officials of various departments to complete the ongoing works including rural roads, water projects and others within the stipulated time.

Later, he visited Maravamangalam, where construction of 100 houses had been undertaken at a cost of Rs.1.66 crore for establishing Samathuvapuram.
