HYDERABAD: Telugu Desam’s Mahanadu has warned the Congress not to view its return to power as a ‘clean chit’ given by people and ignore various ‘scams’ during its term. A resolution adopted to this effect at the Delegates’ session on Wednesday said the TDP struggle against corruption would continue in ‘public interest’. It called upon party leaders/functionaries to dedicate themselves for waging a fight. Party president N. Chandrababu Naidu told the delegates that there was a need for a debate at the national level on the ruling party’s ‘corruption’. He asked the cadres to fight for protecting State’s wealth. Speaking on a resolution on ‘crisis in public health’, he demanded extension of Arogyasri scheme to cover all diseases, including ordinary ailments. He blamed the government’s “negligence” for the outbreak of communicable diseases. Introducing the resolution, Nagam Janardhan Reddy accused the government of failing to ‘utilise’ the health sector infrastructure created by the previous regime and ‘deceiving’ people in the name of Arogyasri. Speaking on another resolution on ‘price rise’, Mr. Naidu criticised both the Centre and the State for failing to control prices. He declared that the party would wage an ‘uncompromising’ fight against price rise and exert pressure on the government to initiate measures for providing relief to people. Party women’s wing president R.K. Roja said the prices went up by 300 per cent since 2004. She demanded provision of a LPG cylinder to each BPL family at Rs.100. Speaking on a resolution on ‘poverty eradication’, Mr. Naidu called for a national debate on the cash transfer scheme, proposed by the party. The conference adopted resolutions on irrigation and food security and promotion of traditional crafts.
