NEW DELHI: Security Skills Council of India and Indira Gandhi National Open University have trained over 5,000 security personnel within the first six months after signing a memorandum of understanding to collaborate on specific courses in private security. Described as unique, as they are not offered by any university in the country, the SSCI-IGNOU courses for training security guards and security supervisors were launched in Delhi, NCR, Uttar Pradesh, Uttarakhand and Orissa on September 10 last year. Rural and urban youths were trained under various programmes at SSCI training academies and centres within six months of the launch and successfully placed as guards. Three more training centres in Chandigarh, Hyderabad and Pune have started functioning.
