LONDON: Scotland Yard was on Saturday reported to be considering launching an investigation into the MPs expenses scandal with a view to prosecuting those who may have broken the law by, for example, claiming for non-existing mortgages or avoiding taxes. The move came as the Tory leader David Cameron called for police action against erring MPs saying they should be “subject to the full force of the law” while the Labour Party set up a panel — dramatically dubbed the “star chamber” — to investigate accused members. Mr. Cameron’s call was echoed by Liberal Democrat leader Nick Clegg. Hundreds of MPs, belonging to all parties, are accused of abusing Parliament’s expenses system which allows out-of-London members to claim up to £22,000 a year for their living arrangements in the capital.
