VISAKHAPATNAM: The Umpires and Scorers Academy of Visakhapatnam District Cricket Association was inaugurated by president of VDCA and former ACA president D.V. Subba Rao at the ACA-VDCA stadium here on Thursday. There was a good need to have quality umpires and scorers as more than 400 matches were being organised in a season by the VDCA, Mr. Subba Rao said. He appealed to the cricketers to take up umpiring and scoring so that VDCA would have a panel of quality officials, he added. Secretary of VDCA and former Test umpire K. Parthasaradhi explained about the objectives of the academy. Classes would be conducted every week-end throughout the year. BCCI panel umpires M. Ramesh Kumar and Ch. R. Reddy gave a power point presentation on the academy. Vice-president of ACA and VDCA P.R. Narayanaswami said the academy would go a long way in picking up the talented umpires and scorers. Vice-president of VDCA and chairman of the academy D. Prasada Rao talked about academy. VDCA’s vice-president P.V.M.J.M. Varma, treasurer S.S.R.K. Prasad, joint secretaries G.J.J. Raju, J.K.M. Naidu and A.P. Naidu and others participated. A total of 52 umpires and scorers participate in the first session held on Thursday.
