NEW DELHI: Ankita Bhambri will compete with renewed hunger to ascertain herself as the No. 1 seed, but the tall Chinese, Duan Ying Ying, will start the favourite in the $10,000 ITF women’s tennis tournament that begins at the DLTA Complex here on Monday. Ankita had lost to the eventual champion Duan Ying Ying early last week, but should find the draw favourable this time, at least for the early rounds. She starts against qualifier Sagarika Phadke. The absence of the 31-year-old Rushmi Chakravarthi, who courageously made it to the semifinals last week, will be felt, but the onus will be on the younger lot to assert their quality this time. The seedings: 1. Ankita Bhambri, 2. Anastasia Malhotra (Jpn), 3. Sanaa Bhambri, 4. Yoon-Young Jeong (Kor), 5. Thuy-Dung Nguyen (Vie), 6. Parija Maloo, 7. Parul Goswami, 8. Duan Ying Ying (Chn). The results: Qualifying event (second and final round): Natasha Bredl (Aut) bt Anushree Thammanna 6-2, 6-2; Soon-Mi Seo (Kor) bt Shweta Rana 6-7(3), 6-3, 6-0; Sonya Dayal bt Tanvi Gupta 6-2, 6-0; Sagarika Phadke bt Lisa Marshall (RSA) 7-6(5), 6-1; Prerna Bhambri bt Ratnika Batra 6-3, 7-5; Kristina Pejkovic (Aus) bt Mohana Sarker 6-1, 6-0; Nupur Kaul bt Abhilasha Ahuja 7-5, 6-0; Moe Kawatoko(Jpn) bt Sowjanya Bavisetti 6-4, 6-2.
